It has been my tradition to bring the family out to the movies, a ritual my father started with his children -- that I am now (consciously or not) perpetuating. In a time when there is not a lot of good news to be had from any form of media; and my work/post-graduate studies/projects schedule is simply driving me nuts … movie-watching becomes an easy (though at times expensive) escape. I have been watching movies as early as I can remember, and consider myself somewhat of a movie critic. I endeavor to enjoy and sample films of various genres. I may not exactly be a connoisseur, but I can tell a good movie when I see one. I have come home a couple of times regretting the money I paid for a movie badly done … although not much compares with the pleasure brought by the merger of an intelligent script, with great acting and superb directing. Tonight I was pleasantly surprised to witness the genius invested on the latest Batman movie. |

Infant Garments Recalled by Rashti & Rashti Due to Choking Hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Rashti & Rashti of New York announced a voluntary recall of Taggies™ Sleep’n Play Infant Garments on July 1, 2008. Consumers should stop using this recalled product immediately because the snaps on these garments can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. No injury has been reported from this recalled product. These infant garments were manufactured in China and were sold at Dillards, Nordstrom, and other specialty stores and internet retailers nationwide from June 2007 through May 2008 for about $20. |

I’ve made hundreds of decisions already today, and so have you. You just don’t remember them because they were habits. They didn’t require a lot of mental effort and stress. For example, Should I get up? . . . Now? . . . On which side of the bed? Should I take a shower? . . . Brush my teeth? . . . Which should I do first? Should I get dressed? . . . Should I start with my right foot or left foot when I put on my socks? How about breakfast? . . . Which hand should I use to eat with? . . . In which chair should I sit at the table? |

Most of us are so excited that summer is almost here. Summer is that time of the year where people plan their vacations and think about relaxing and spending quality time with their families. Ahhh, vacations, vacations, vacations ... but wait! I am not trying to sound like a party pooper here, but before you go frolicking in the beach (no matter how deserving you are) … take a moment and think back if all is set with your student’s finances for the next enrollment schedule. And for those of you who are looking for some financial assistance, here are a few information that might help.Did you know that there are different types of loans available to students, specifically student loans that are guaranteed by the government? The Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and Direct Loans (DL) are among the programs offered by the government to assist students and parents with the cost of tuition, books, room and board, and other school related expenses. Otherwise known as Stafford Loan, the loans under these programs can be categorized as either Subsidized or Unsubsidized. Stafford Subsidized loans are need-based loans. “If you're eligible for a subsidized loan, the government will pay (subsidize) the interest on your loan while you're in school, for the first six months after you leave school, and if you qualify to have your payments deferred. Depending on your financial need, you may borrow subsidized money for an amount up to the annual loan borrowing limit for your level of study.” (http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/studentloans.jsp). What this means for students is that their loans will not start earning interest until 6 months after they leave school (this is called the grace period). Payments can also be deferred for a maximum of 3 years upon request. |
