PGMA says RP is prepared to face global food/fuel crisis PDF Print E-mail
By PNA
Tuesday, 15 July 2008

MANILA (PNA) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said on July 14 that with her administration’s successful implementation of fiscal measures, the country has the best shield against the worst effects of the unstoppable worldwide food and fuel price increases.

The President made the statement in a speech welcoming to Malacanang’s Rizal Hall this morning the delegates of the 4th Ambassadors, Consuls Generals and Tourism Directors Tour (ACGTDT).

The President said her government spends a lot of time and resources to train and retrain a growing work force for “specific task and for whatever challenges a wayward world economy may throw at us. And because we have been prepared for it, we have been able to shield our nation from the worst effects of food and fuel crisis worldwide.”

I have heard of Rocky Point so many times from friends and colleagues.  They said it’s really a beautiful place to visit. Well, beautiful is an understatement. It is really very BEAUTIFUL! I’m so happy I went with my family a few weeks ago.

The trip is not too bad. It only took us about 2 ½ hours to get to the border and another hour to get to our destination.  Passing the border going to Mexico is no problem at all. We just slowed and pass through the police and federal patrol, no questions asked. We saw the long line going back to the US from Mexico on the other lane. Boy I said to myself, we will have to wait in a long pile of cars going back to Arizona then. But it wasn’t really my concern at that time. I just wanted to get to Puerto Penasco or Rocky Point as quickly as possible.

In Search of Truth in Mindanao PDF Print E-mail
By Atty. Roel Pulido - AFF
Tuesday, 01 July 2008
As soon as ABS-CBN reporter and anchorwoman Ces Drilon was kidnapped by suspected muslim terrorists in Sulu, several government officials immediately blamed Ces and her team. Some said that the ABS-CBN team had it coming because they sought a known terrorist group in their own territory. Others blamed the reporters for not coordinating with the military and the local government. Still others claimed that the media’s continuing coverage of personalities and events related to terrorism in Mindanao has given the island a bad image.Indeed, Ces and her team took such a great risk to pursue a story about the Abu Sayaff’s alleged change in leadership. The said group has been held responsible for gruesome crimes such as kidnapping, beheadings of their victims, killings and bombings. It was not exactly wise for Ces and her group to have trusted them.

CEBU CITY, (PNA) – The Cebu Health and Wellness Council (CHWC) plans to position Cebu Province as a “world-class destination for medical destination for medical and wellness tourism in Asia 2010.”

Members of CHWC, particularly those offering hospital and dental services, observed a “steady flow” of inquiries and walk-in patients long before they have formally organized themselves as a group. PerryScope - Betrayal of the Filipino Veterans PDF Print E-mail
By Perry Diaz - AFF
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

Just as the U.S. House of Representatives was about to vote on S.1315 -- known as the "Veterans' Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007," introduced by Sen. Daniel Inouye -- a group of Filipino-Americans from San Francisco drove a polarizing wedge that could potentially impede the passage of the bill. Indeed, what was almost a certainty two weeks ago is now in jeopardy.

Sixty-two years after the infamous Rescission Act of 1946 was signed into law denying benefits to more than 200,000 Filipino veterans of World War II, the surviving 18,000 aging veterans came within arm's length to finally getting the recognition and benefits that they deserved. Last April 24, 2008, S.1315 was overwhelmingly passed by the Senate on a 96-1 vote. On May 22, 2008, the House of Representatives was scheduled to vote on the bill. The game plan was to get 290 bipartisan support to ensure passage under "suspension of rules," which means that a "killer" amendment could be stopped from being introduced on the floor; thus, averting any attempt to remove the benefits for Filipino veterans.
