The summer movie extravaganza continues. I have been rarely disappointed with the movies I’ve seen thus far this summer. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going with more great movies. Enjoy and see you at the movies. Get Smart (PG-13) KA-FREAKIN-BOOM! SIDE-SPLITTING COMEDY!
This film, by far has been one of the best movie re-makes! Nobody would have made a better Agent 86 besides Steve Carell; he truly did bring out the essence of Maxwell Smart. Carell was also reminiscent of Don Adams, who portrayed Maxwell Smaart in the original TV show, while still incorporating his own style. Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 was genius! She is just gorgeous and who knew she was so funny? One of the greatest aspects of this film was the all important chemistry, and the chemistry between Carell and Hathaway is just perfect! That is one of the reasons that made the TV series a big hit. Thanks to the filmmakers for keeping the movie up today but not forgetting its roots! If you’re looking for a film that’s not too serious and want a good laugh from, then I highly recommend this one. I am hoping they continue with some sequels! This one makes The List.

AN ADRENALINE RUSH! EXHILIRATING! This film brings gives the same energy as The Matrix yet not completely ripping it off. The caliber of special effects sequences is amazing! Fast cars, things being blown up, gun battles and in your face fights, guy ask for? I’m a huge action movie fan, but the film truly has to bring something special in order for me to appreciate it and this film did! I was just on the edge of my seat with all my senses in overdrive. Angelina Jolie who portrays Fox, always exudes sexiness and power! Even though she doesn’t have a lot of dialogue she does a whole lot of damage with such ease and grace! For some reason there is something sexy about a woman on top of a speeding car (on the hood) firing a shotgun like it’s a walk in the park. James McAvoy does a great job playing Wes who is a depressingly ordinary guy working his dead end job, just coasting through life looking for meaning but then transforms into this super-charged, butt-kicking, gun-wielding assassin. I also liked the fact the filmmakers did not forget about how important the plot is to a movie. They took enough time to create the story to enjoy the great action. So all you action fans out there, you need to see this movie in the theater to truly appreciate its tenacity!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (PG-13) IMAGINATIVE AND FUN! I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Usually sequels have a hard time trying to live up to their predecessors. In this case it’s the opposite. The first film was just laughable and forgettable. Here, the movie gets an upgraded director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labrynth) who’s superb art direction and acute visual eye truly delivers a stunning movie enriched with creepy monsters and seamless, well-choreographed fight scenes! Del Toro’s precision is felt in every frame, he truly does pull out all the stops to visually overhwhelm the audience. The story of Hellboy II is about a vengeful Prince Nauda (Luke Goss) who seeks three pieces to a crown that will awaken a powerful and indestructible Golden Army of machines. Hellboy (Ron Perlman) and his team Liz (Selma Blair), Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and Johann Krause (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) are dispatched by the government to protect the third and final piece, held by Princess Nuala (Anna Walton), Prince Nuada’s twin sister, and catch the prince before completing his mission. For anyone interested in a bizarre, unique and funny monster/comic book movie put this on The List, if that’s not your flavor then skip it.
