1. In Acts 5:3-5, St. Peter told Ananias who kept some of the money he received, “… you have lied to the Holy Spirit… You have not lied to men but to God.” Therefore, the Holy Spirit is God. 2. In Mt 28:16-20, when Jesus commissioned the eleven disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, He commanded them to baptize them “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Jesus’ words confirm the reality of the Trinity, three divine persons in one God. Jesus carefully used the “name” in singular form, which signifies oneness, equality and unity of the three divine Persons. God the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. All three are united in one and only one Godhead, one divine nature.
3. St. Paul, the great apostle of the Gentiles, gave his farewell blessings to the members of the Corinth church, and invoked all three members of the Trinity- Father (God), Son (Lord Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. He said goodbye by praying: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all,” (2 Cor 13:14). Paul firmly believed and taught that the three divine persons are united as one Triune God. 4. Since God is eternal, the Holy Spirit is therefore Eternal. St. Paul asks, “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!? (Heb 9:14). III. What is the personality of the Holy Spirit? To be continued. |
